About

Our mission.

Democracy works best when citizens are informed. We translate complex legislation into language anyone can understand.

Who We Are

Civic clarity.

The Capitol Lens transforms complex congressional legislation into plain-English explanations that anyone can understand. We believe civic engagement shouldn't require a law degree.

We pull official bill data directly from Congress.gov, use AI to generate initial summaries with human oversight, and focus on bills that are actually moving — committee hearings, votes, real action. Every summary links back to the official source so you can verify.

Our Framework

Three questions.

Every bill we cover gets the same treatment. We ask three questions, and we hold ourselves to answering them clearly, honestly, and without partisan framing.

01 — The Text

What.

What does the bill actually do? The key provisions in plain English — stripped of procedural filler, acronyms, and legal scaffolding.

02 — The Stakes

So what?

Why should you care? Who it affects, why it matters, who benefits, who loses — and the real-world tradeoffs.

03 — The Path

Now what?

What's the current status? What happens next? How can you engage with your representatives?

Editorial Standards

The Capitol Lens is strictly nonpartisan. We don't tell you how to think about legislation — we help you understand what it actually says. Our goal is informed citizens, not influenced ones.
