About The Capitol Lens

Our Mission

Democracy works best when citizens are informed. But let's be honest — reading congressional legislation is about as fun as reading stereo instructions written by lawyers.

The Capitol Lens transforms complex legislative language into plain-English explanations that anyone can understand. We believe civic engagement shouldn't require a law degree.

Our Framework

Every bill is explained using our simple three-part framework:

W

What

What does this bill actually do? The key provisions in plain English.

S

So What

Why should you care? Who it affects and what the real-world impact could be.

N

Now What

What's the current status? What happens next? How can you engage?

How It Works

  • We pull official bill data directly from Congress.gov
  • AI helps generate plain-English summaries (with human oversight)
  • We focus on bills that are actually moving — committee hearings, votes, real action
  • Every summary links back to the official source so you can verify

Nonpartisan by Design

The Capitol Lens is strictly nonpartisan. We don't tell you how to think about legislation — we just help you understand what it actually says. Our goal is informed citizens, not influenced ones.
